Training Trainers

Improvements in Army training will continue with the establishment in April 2007 of a new Army Training and Recruitment Staff Leadership School (ASLS) in Pirbright, Surrey, Minister for the Armed Forces, Adam Ingram announced today.

Under current arrangements leadership training is given at a series of targeted roadshows, and at dedicated sites at Litchfied and Catterick. The new school will bring together a range of high quality training and expertise for the wide range of Army personnel who are involved in training.

Mr Ingram said:

"This new centre of excellence will provide the opportunity to share best practice - it is a tangible commitment to driving forward change in training methods throughout the Army. We want to ensure that every recruit gets the best possible training and support from talented and professional leaders, and I know the new Leadership School will deliver high standards at every level".

Welcoming the announcement, The Director General of Army Training Major General Andrew Graham said:

"Our soldiers deserve the very best leadership. This new school will ensure that all our training and supervisory staff of every rank - from Lance Corporal through to Brigadier - continue to deliver world class quality training and support to recruits. Training and support that begins from their very first day in the army right through to the moment they are deployed on operations across the globe."
