UK World Skills 2013 squad takes shape
The London 2012 Olympic Games have closed but as the Olympic Park prepares to welcome the Paralympic Games the United Kingdom squad for World Skills 2013 in Leipzig is also starting to take shape.
It is not so long ago that London hosted the WorldSkills festival of acheivement in work skills that is the biggest international skills competition in the world. Every two years around 1,000 skilled workers from 61 member countries/regions from across the world come together to compete for medals in more than 40 different skills including Electrical Installation, Mobile Robotics, Web Design, Cooking and Landscape Gardening.
The members of Squad UK are chosen from among the UK’s most talented apprentices, employees and learners after they competed in tough three-day selection events held throughout the UK.
Over the next twelve months the selected apprentices will be preparing to take on the very best from across the world, with a specialised training programme supported by a dedicated Training Manager that matches the intense support provided to an Olympic or Paralympic athlete.
The final Team UK selection events will be held throughout the UK in March 2013.
Members of the Work Place Learning Centre team are available to provide journalists and media organisations with expert comment on all aspects of learning at work.
