Leadership development should be a top priority
A new survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) has identified a huge shortage of effective leaders and suggests that leadership development is now a priority for many UK organisations.
Eighty-five percent of the 664 training managers surveyed have made leadership development a priority with just over half creating a formal strategy.
The actions address skills gaps previously identified by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) including leading and managing people, managing change, business acumen, coaching and communication.
Almost all businesses are according to the survey recognising that good leadership has a direct impact on bottom line performance, but many are still not seeing the development of those skills as a key business activity.
