Warning over staff training letters scam
The Dundee Evening Telegraph and Post has reported a warning from Tayside police for businesses about a scam which offers security training on behalf of the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).
The con artists approach a high value business such as jewellers, IT equipment dealers, cars dealers and antiques.
In the scam a Crewe based company purports to provide training that is linked to the Proceeds of Crime Act and Money Laundering Regulations, on behalf of the NCIS, and requests staff details and a fee of £75 per employee, payable by cheque.
The legislation exists, but the offer is not linked to the NCIS and is in the words of the police a scam.
The NCIS is aware that similar letters are in circulation in other parts of the country, and advises anybody receiving one to contact the police.
