Start a safety education campaign with eye safety
A survey reported by Risk and Insurance.com says that the best starting point for a safety education campaign is eye safety.
The survey was conducted by Sperian Protection a manufacturer of personal protection euipment. They contacted safety directors across North America. More than two thirds of the respondents said that starting a safety education campaign with eye safety had enabled them to build a stronger safety culture. However just over a third also said that despite this they were still not happy with their eye safety compliance and 82% said that they did not think that eye safety standards were strict enough to provide workers with sufficient protection.
Starting a safety education programme with eye protection makes a lot of sense for several reasons.
Your eyes are valuable, and yet very vunerable - people probably fear the loss of their sight more than the loss of any other of their senses.
It is obvious who is participating in the safety initiative, by wearing protection and who is not, and as a result who is taking responsibility for their own safety seriously.
Eyes are so simple and straight-forward to protect but the consequences of an eye injury are for many people too serious to contemplate.
